I love our London terrace. We’ve invested so much of our of time and money renovating it over the years but it’s lacking any personality and distinctive style. I’m definitely stuck and need to find my ‘creative mojo’ to just get rooms finished. I’m embarrassed to admit we’ve only managed to put a couple of pictures up in the sitting room! Then by chance I spotted a workshop on Instagram, ‘Life Mood boarding and how to make interior design work for you’. Perfect. I signed up and a few weeks ago set off on a road trip from London to Little Bentley in Essex to try and find my interior design inspiration.
Well I arrived about 9am at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and headed for the ‘Show Gardens’ on Main Avenue. It was Press Day so there were no crowds but the BBC production crews were out in force including Radio 2’s Chris Evans and Mary Berry recording live for his Breakfast Show. It didn’t take me long to start spotting of a gaggle of celebrities from Joanna Lumley to Hugh Bonneville. I must admit I was quite star struck and distracted so I decided to head for the Great Pavilion -an indoor arena full of the most stunning floral displays, to catch my breath.
We bought our 1930’s terrace house in 2003. It needed completely renovating as it hadn’t been touched for 50 years. I wanted to create a home with a contemporary and relaxed feel and most of all I wanted to put my interior design skills into action. After years searching magazines for design inspiration as well as saving, begging and borrowing the money to be able start our big makeover we started to update all the rooms one by one. It’s still a work in progress but we’re getting there. I’ve tried to mix the traditional of the house style to give us a light and airy living space along with a modern urban feel. See what you think……
